A Simple Guide to Understanding and Boosting your Energy
Where Does Your Energy Come From?
Most people think energy is something you either have… or you don’t.
“I’m just tired all the time.”
“I’ve got no energy.”
“I used to have more stamina.”
But the truth is, your body is actually making energy every single moment of the day.
Your body is designed to create energy. Inside every cell are tiny structures called mitochondria. These act like little energy factories.
They take in oxygen from your breathing, nutrients from your food, and water from hydration… and convert all of that into usable energy.
So energy isn’t random.
It’s not something you’ve lost.
It’s something your body is designed to produce.
Where are the Mitochondria?
Every cell contains mitochondria, but some areas rely on them much more, particularly the brain, muscles, heart, and immune system.
So when your energy system is not working efficiently, you may notice things like brain fog, fatigue, poor concentration, low motivation, or feeling easily overwhelmed.
Mitochondria are found throughout your entire body, but some areas rely on them more:
- Brain → focus, clarity, concentration
- Muscles → movement and stamina
- Heart → constant energy demand
- Immune system → healing and recovery
When energy production slows down, you may notice:
- fatigue
- brain fog
- low motivation
- poor concentration
- feeling easily overwhelmed
Why am I so Tired?
Fatigue doesn’t usually mean something is “wrong”.
It often means your energy system is not working efficiently right now.
This can happen after:
• illness or viral infections
• ongoing stress
• emotional overload
• poor sleep
• nutritional depletion
The good news is… this can improve.
The Effect of Stress
Stress is one of the biggest drains on your energy.
When your body is in stress mode:
• energy is used up quickly
• energy production becomes less efficient
• your nervous system stays “on alert”
• your body struggles to fully rest and recover
Reducing stress is one of the fastest ways to improve energy.
Simple Ways to Boost Your Energy
You don’t need to do everything at once.
Start small and build gradually.
Breathe
Your body needs oxygen to create energy
Try this simple reset:
• Breathe a little faster and deeper for 1–2 minutes
• Hold your breath for up to 30 seconds
• Slowly release
• Repeat 2–3 times
This can quickly improve clarity and energy.
Hydration
Water helps your body produce and move energy.
• Sip water regularly throughout the day
• Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue
Food – Fuel your Body
Energy comes from what you eat.
Aim to include more:
- fruits
- vegetables
- whole foods
Start where you are. Even small improvements help.
Focus Your Mind
Trying to do too many things at once drains energy.
• Focus on one task at a time
• Let other distractions fade into the background
Focused thinking = more efficient energy use
Rest Without Guilt
Rest is essential for recovery.
Your body uses rest to:
• repair
• reset
• rebuild energy
Listening to your body helps you recover faster.
Sunlight and Nature
Spending time outdoors supports your energy system.
• Get some natural sunlight daily
• Sit outside, even for a few minutes
• Lean against a tree or place your feet on the ground
Simple… but very effective.
Hands-on Energy (Self-Care)
Place your hands on your body:
• solar plexus (upper stomach)
• or heart centre
Breathe slowly and imagine energy building and flowing.
Even 1–3 minutes can make a difference.
A Final Thought
Your body hasn’t forgotten how to create energy.
Sometimes it just needs the right support to do it more efficiently again.
Be patient with yourself.
Small steps create lasting change.
