The Truth Behind Witchcraft, Healing and Halloween

From Fear to Understanding

🧙 Every year, as the veil between worlds thins around Halloween, old fears and misunderstandings tend to resurface. Some people still whisper words like witchcraft or evil when they see someone working with energy, crystals, herbs, essential oils or healing light. But what if these old ideas are simply remnants of fear- fear of the unknown, fear of the mystical, and fear of personal power?

🌿 The Roots of Witchcraft and Healing ❤️‍🩹

Long before the word witch became something to fear, it was a word of honour. It came from the Old English wicce or wicca, meaning “wise one.” These were the midwives, herbalists, seers, shamans, medicine men and woman, and healers of their communities — people deeply attuned to nature’s rhythms and the sacred cycles of the earth. This included those who followed the path of the stars across the skies and followed the seasons and the energy of the planet.

They knew how to use plants for healing, how to calm the mind through meditation, ritual and prayer, and how to honour the elements of life. Their work wasn’t dark or demonic — it was grounded in the natural world, in the same wisdom that modern herbalists, energy healers, and even doctors now draw upon in new ways. In fact most of the mysteries of the past can now be explained by modern science.

👻 How Fear Changed the Story

As time went on, politics, patriarchy, and religion began to shift power away from the natural world and into human institutions. Healing practices that once belonged to the people were condemned, and the sacred feminine — intuition, emotion, creativity — was labelled suspicious. It was all about control of the masses.

Throughout history, thousands of innocent people (mostly women) were persecuted, tortured, or killed simply for practising natural medicine, astrology, or energy work. These were not “witches” in the evil sense — they were wise women and men, connecting heaven and earth through their hearts and hands.

🎃 The Origins of Halloween

Halloween itself began not as something dark, but as Samhain — a Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. It was a time to honour ancestors, reflect on life and death, and celebrate the cycle of renewal.

The idea of costumes and “spirits” was about blending the seen and unseen worlds — not inviting evil, but recognising that nature, death, and rebirth are all part of one sacred cycle. Later, when Christianity spread, Samhain merged with All Hallows’ Eve — the night before All Saints’ Day — blending old and new beliefs.

All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1st, is a Christian holy day dedicated to honouring all saints and martyrs — not just the famous ones who have been canonised, but also the countless unnamed souls who lived lives of goodness, faith, and service.

🙌 Reiki and the Return to Light

Every culture throughout history has had a form of energy healing. This included Jesus himself wuth the “laying on of hands” who also said “all of you can do what I do and more”. In China the energy is called chi abd in India it is known as Prana and has been used for more than 5,000 years to promote health and wellbeing. In Hawaii it is called Mana, and in Japan its called Ki.

Modern energy healing practices such as Reiki were once also misunderstood by those unfamiliar with them. The system of Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk more than 100 years ago. Reiki which means universal life-force energy, or the energy that flows yhrough every living thing. It is not a religion. It does not involve worship, spells, or manipulation. It is a simple, peaceful method of channelling healing energy through the hands, promoting balance, wellbeing, and inner calm.

To those who have experienced it, Reiki feels like pure light — an ancient remembering of connection with life itself. Yet to someone who has been taught to fear anything not sanctioned by their faith, it can appear mysterious or even “wrong.”

But the truth is this: Reiki is grounded in compassion, respect, and love for all beings. It aligns with the highest spiritual principles — kindness, compassion, honesty, gratitude, integrity and peace. It helps people release suffering, reconnect to their true nature, and find harmony within.

💗 From Fear to Understanding

When people act out of fear — painting words on windows, leaving pamphlets, criticising, judging or calling others names — it often reflects the deep discomfort that arises when the old meets the new. In truth, lightworkers, healers, and spiritual teachers are not threatening anyone’s faith. They are simply offering another pathway back to the same source of love and healing.

The world needs all kinds of healers: doctors and priests, therapists and Reiki practitioners, herbalists, accupuncturists, and scientists. We are all pieces of one great whole, all serving life and each other in our own ways.

🌟 A personal Reflection 🙏

Years ago, a woman came to see me for hypnosis — she was a gentle, kind priest. After a few sessions, she tearfully told me that she had been sent by her church to find out if I was “doing the work of the devil.” But in her own healing journey, she felt something very different. She hugged me and cried and said, “You have been sent here by the angels. You are doing God’s work.”

That moment has stayed with me always. It reminds me that love recognises love, no matter what form it takes — and that true healing is never about religion, politics, ego or labels. It is about remembering the divine light that lives in all of us.

💫 This Halloween Let’s Reclaim the Light 💡✨

Instead of seeing Halloween as something dark, we can see it as a celebration of mystery, transformation, and balance. It’s a reminder that healing, intuition, and connection with the unseen are sacred gifts — not curses.

Let’s bring compassion to the conversation, bridging the gap between the spiritual and the religious, between logic and intuition, between fear and love.

Because at the heart of it all, we are all walking each other home — back to light, truth, and understanding.
